Garrard County church partners with Humble congregation in wake of Harvey

HUMBLE, Texas—When First Baptist Church of Humble, Texas, found itself with two feet of water filling the sanctuary, they made the decision to go from a “disaster site” to a “disaster relief site,” with the help of churches like Forks of Dix River Baptist Church in Garrard County.

“When Hurricane Harvey hit the area of Houston, FBC Humble was one of the first churches in their area to rise to the occasion to provide relief to their hurting community,” Cole Caven, pastor of Forks of Dix Baptist Church, said. “But as the flood waters continued to rise in their area, their church became a disaster site itself as flood waters filled up their church campus.” Continue reading “Garrard County church partners with Humble congregation in wake of Harvey”


9-year-old holds bake sale for Harvey

Burkesville—When Macey Poindexter, a 9-year-old fourth grader from Burkesville Baptist Church, heard of the devastation that Harvey did to the patients at Nixon Home Care in Houston, she “had to help some way,” she said. That “way” resulted in a bake sale, raising $700 for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

This past summer, she spent every weekday volunteering at an adult daycare in her community. She would help pass out snacks, play games, decorate cupcakes with them, and she even taught the patients how to make slime. Continue reading “9-year-old holds bake sale for Harvey”

Super Saturday offers ‘practical training for Kentucky Baptists’

Louisville—Through the months of August and September, nearly 2,000 Kentucky Baptists gathered in six locations for a time of fellowship and practical ministry training. On Sept. 16, approximately 530 of those met at Highview Baptist Church in Louisville.

Steve Rice, Kentucky Baptist Convention’s church consulting and revitalization team leader and organizer of the event, said the goal is to bring the bi-annual conference within an hour drive of every Kentucky Baptist Church.
