Hall Street’s legacy continues by gift to Life Community

Owensboro—In late spring of this year, Kenny Rager, pastor of Life Community Church in Owensboro, one of the Kentucky Baptist Convention’s “high impact church plants,” stood in the parking lot of the old daycare they rented as office and ministry center space and watched as it burned to the ground.

“We had to go through the fire before this could ever happen,” Rager expressed, referring to Hall Street Baptist Church gifting their entire property—church building, additional property near the church, two buses and all of its assets—to Life Community. Couple in 90s tie knot at Marshall County church

Aurora—93-year-old Effie Dugan, a resident of a town in the suburbs of St. Louis, Mo., decided to have her wedding to 94-year-old Forest Opperman at the church of her youth, Ferguson Springs Baptist Church in Aurora, Ky. The couple hopes to start their new lives together back in Missouri.

Dugan, a widow, married Opperman, whose wife of 55 years passed away a few years ago. Opperman got Dugan’s number through a mutual friend, the owner of a hardware store in town. The pair was initially reluctant to begin dating. Continue reading “Couple in 90s tie knot at Marshall County church”

Converge’s goal: Engage students to engage students

Hardin—On Sept. 23-25, approximately 400 college students across the state will gather at Jonathan Creek Conference center for a time of connecting, fellowship and learning how to engage their campus for Christ. The conference is part of the Kentucky Baptist Convention’s Twelve24 initiative.

“In the fall semester you have a window of opportunity to meet new students and develop new relationships. With this generation, the twelve24 generation, relationships are one of the most important things in their life,” Brian Combs, the collegiate evangelism strategist with the KBC, said. “So for churches that are trying to engage college students, they have to develop a relationship with college students.
